Hello!
I am Phyllis O. Duffy. I am a fierce advocate for the underdog, driven by a deep commitment to seeking justice for those who often go unheard. With my background in psychology and law, I possess a unique perspective that enables me to navigate the complexities of the legal system that my clients face. My experiences have instilled in me a relentless determination to be a force of change in the world, and I strive to empower my clients and fight for their rights with compassion and tenacity. Every case is a step toward creating a more equitable society, and I am dedicated to ensuring that everyone has access to the justice they deserve.
My Story
My journey to becoming an attorney has been unconventional, but it's made me who I am today. I grew up in an urban town in New Jersey, and what I lacked in traditional advantages, I made up for with grit, determination, and the support of my family and friends.
At Montclair State University, I worked as a Librarian's Assistant while earning my bachelor's degree in psychology. Following graduation, I secured an internship at a law firm, working to protect underprivileged juveniles in the justice system. With two years of experience with teams focused on navigating the juvenile court systems, I transitioned to a paralegal role at a law firm specializing in insurance and workers' compensation cases.
My LSAT scores helped secure me a spot at Syracuse University College of Law in 2019. At Syracuse, I was a student attorney for the Veterans Legal Clinic and dedicated many hours to engaging my fellow students in pro bono work in my role as the Syracuse Public Interest Network Fellowship Director. My pro bono work as a student also encompassed working with the Volunteer Lawyers Project as an LGBTQ+ intern for Onondaga County.
After earning my Juris Doctorate in May 2022, I had the privilege of working as a law clerk for the Honorable Debrah J. Venezia, P.J.F.P. at Middlesex County Family Court. Here, I honed my research skills and gained valuable experience working on various legal cases alongside the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency.
As the founder of Phyllis O. Duffy, Attorney at Law, I am dedicated to providing exceptional legal service by leveraging my unique blend of psychology and legal expertise to navigate the legal system with my clients.
When I was younger and lacked the knowledge and resources I have today, my instinct was flight. Determination, experience, and the unwavering support of my mentors, clients, and family have changed that.
I established this firm to fight with and for you.
